Soo Line 1003: A Living Legend
Soo Line 1003 is a 2-8-2 “Mikado” steam locomotive built in 1913 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO). After decades of service, it was retired and later acquired by the Steam Locomotive Heritage Association in 1973. Volunteers restored it to operating condition, and it now runs special excursions throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. The locomotive is housed in Hartford and serves as a tangible link to the city’s railroad heritage.
