After Kissel closed, the factory was purchased by West Bend Aluminum Company in 1944. During World War II, it was retooled to produce war materials: shell casings, rocket containers, gas mask canisters, and other essential supplies. The plant later manufactured the “Waterwitch” outboard motor, sold exclusively through Sears & Roebuck. After the war, the site continued to host various industries, reflecting Hartford’s adaptability.
